Woburn, MA – October 30, 2017 – A freemium version of Kaspersky Secure Connection, a VPN application from Kaspersky Lab, is now available for iOS. Kaspersky Secure Connection is a VPN solution that reliably encrypts all network traffic for secure data transmission over Wi-Fi. Additionally, it detects when a device connects to a public Wi-Fi access point and prompts the user to turn on the solution, preventing consumer data from being compromised.
Many consumers do not recognize the dangers of using public Wi-Fi, and therefore do not take proper precautions when connecting their devices to unsecured Wi-Fi access points. For example, researchers recently discovered that virtually any Wi-Fi network relying on WPA or WPA2 encryption could be compromised in what is known as a key reinstallation, or KRACK, attack. The researchers found that devices running on any operating system, including iOS, could be vulnerable, refuting the common misconception that iPhones do not need additional security protection. One of the best ways to protect any device against such attacks and ensure online activity remains private, is by using a VPN solution to encrypt traffic when connecting to any public Wi-Fi access point.
With Kaspersky Secure Connection for iOS, consumers can choose to encrypt traffic continuously (while the network is available or until the user disconnects it), encrypt on demand, or enable encryption automatically when connected to an unsecured Wi-Fi network. In the paid version of the product, consumers can also select which server the traffic goes to; for example, while in Germany, users can select to encrypt traffic via U.S. servers.
The iOS app joins existing versions of Kaspersky Secure Connection available for Windows, MacOS X and Android. The VPN solution offers users 200 megabytes of encrypted traffic per day on any number of devices, or 300 megabytes when connecting to the My Kaspersky portal. This provides users with the bandwidth needed for the most important online activities, such as checking email, instant messaging or reading the news. The paid version of the product provides unlimited traffic for five devices with any operating system for a period of one month or a year. The solution allows the user to view statistics for encrypted traffic through the My Kaspersky Portal.
“Thanks to traffic encryption via VPN, intercepting users’ online activity is becoming pointless for cybercriminals, instead of intriguing details about someone else's private life, they see only an unintelligible series of signs and symbols,” said Andrei Mochola, head of consumer business at Kaspersky Lab. “To protect our users, we have developed the multiplatform Kaspersky Secure Connection with a unique adaptive approach that ‘prompts’ the user when their data can be compromised, making it an essential piece of kit for every active Internet user.”
Kaspersky Secure Connection is available to download and activate in all regions where the company has a presence, except for the following countries: Belarus, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, China and Hong Kong. In addition to iOS, Kaspersky Secure Connection is also available on Windows, MacOS X and Android.
