Today, Kaspersky Lab is introducing updates to Kaspersky Password Manager, the company’s next generation solution for securely storing online account information.
Woburn, MA – March 14, 2018 – Today, Kaspersky Lab is introducing updates to Kaspersky Password Manager, the company’s next generation solution for securely storing online account information. Now, the product not only stores usernames and passwords, but also securely stores payment data as well as scans and photos of documents.
According to a recent survey, the average adult internet user in North America has 16 password-protected online accounts, services or applications – a significant amount of data to manage. With Kaspersky Password Manager, users must remember only one master password to access a secure vault containing the usernames and passwords for all of the websites that they visit, stored in an encrypted format. The solution can be synchronized across all of a user’s devices, and can be accessed online via the My Kaspersky portal. In the new version of the product, user data can be manually sorted for convenience and quick access to the most frequently used entries.
In addition to username and password combinations, the new Kaspersky Password Manager now includes the option to store and automatically enter the user’s home address and banking data on payment sites. To provide an extra layer of security for this valuable information and prevent possible theft, the product only transmits banking information to sites after their reliability has been verified.
The updated solution can now also be used as a safe vault to store images of sensitive documents, such as tax forms or scans of an insurance policy. Using technology based on machine learning and an algorithmic approach, a user can prompt the product to search their device for saved images of documents. The technology works locally on the user’s device, detecting the presence of text on pictures by analyzing a specific pattern of lines. If the program finds an image that appears to be a photo or scan of a document, it prompts the user to save it in a secure form inside the program[1] and delete the unencrypted copy. On mobile devices, users can take photos of sensitive documents directly from the program, and images will be immediately encrypted and stored securely without remaining on the device in unprotected form.
“Today’s consumers are storing an enormous volume of sensitive information on their devices, including passwords for dozens of online accounts, private documents, financial information and more,” said Brian Anderson, vice president of consumer sales, Kaspersky Lab North America. “With so much data to manage, consumers not only need a centralized vault, but also one that’s encrypted, which they can rely on to store all of their most important information. The new Kaspersky Password Manager is designed to address these needs, ensuring that consumers’ lives are both secure and simplified.”
In addition to the new features, the update also includes support for the latest Windows, Mac, Android and iOS operating systems and native browsers such as Safari and Chrome. In addition, FaceID can now be used instead of the master password on iPhoneX devices, while TouchID can be used on Android devices.
The free version of the product includes 15 stored entries, which can be a username and password pair, an address, a bank card number or a document image. In the premium version, the number of entries is unlimited.
