New Kaspersky Small Office Security Offers Enhanced Protection and Seamless User Experience

September 20, 2018

Woburn, MA – September 20, 2018 – Today, Kaspersky Lab is announcing the next generation of Kaspersky Small Office Security, which adds protection against ransomware and crypto-miners for file servers, support for Microsoft Windows protection during computer reboot and application update, as well as numerous improvements to functionality and performance.

Small businesses can experience cyberthreats just like medium and large businesses, but unlike larger organizations, they may not be able to prioritize IT security. In fact, nearly a third (32%) of very small businesses, or organizations with less than 50 employees, entrust the task of cybersecurity to employees that don’t have expertise in the area according to a recent Kaspersky Lab report

With an easy-to-use solution that can be quickly deployed, the new Kaspersky Small Office Security offers businesses protection from cybercrime without the need for technical cybersecurity expertise or regular hands-on administration. The latest version extends protection to the top threats businesses face today, such as ransomware, which is well-recognized, but also the growing threat of cryptocurrency mining. The key features highlighted in the new version of Kaspersky Small Office Security include:

  • Extended protection against ransomware and crypto-miners with the System Watcher now available for protection of Windows file servers in addition to already protecting Windows computers. The solution detects threats and helps businesses to protect company data – preventing malicious attempts against the system, backing up critical data, and rolling back the system if required, to undo any damage.
  • A new alert approach for product notifications that won’t disturb employees unless the event is critical when using office applications, programs running in full-screen mode, or video calls, without interruption.
  • An improved way to automatically search for application updates with a new version of Software Updater that schedules searches for applications that need patching. This helps to decrease the risk of cybercriminals exploiting unpatched application vulnerabilities without having to remember to check for potentially vulnerable applications the business uses.
  • A redesigned and upgraded web console for installation and management of Kaspersky Small Office Security across an organization. To gain more control, businesses can access all the information they need about how the product is being used – including information about licenses, users and their devices, product versions installed, and more.

In addition, Kaspersky Small Office Security also supports safe web surfing, with private browsing, anti-phishing, anti-spam and anti-banner components. Meanwhile, the Safe Money feature protects financial transactions by opening payment sites in a protected browser.

“New technologies give businesses new opportunities to grow, but threats are always present: fake websites, malicious pictures and unprotected networks; free but unsecure Wi-Fi spots; and even lost or stolen work devices,” said Sergey Martsynkyan, head of B2B product marketing, Kaspersky Lab. “All of these elements are risk factors for businesses and their data. When focusing on growth and their busy day-to-day tasks, small companies don’t always prioritize the prevention of these attacks but with Kaspersky Small Office Security they can be protected without a heavy investment or the need for IT security technical expertise.”

“Small businesses today struggle in managing IT security due to the lack of skills and personnel, therefore vendors have to design offerings for this market that are easy for the customer to understand, deploy and manage on their own,” said Frank Dickson, research director at IDC. “However, just because a business is small does not mean that its need for security is less acute; the need is more demanding as small businesses do not have the resources of their enterprise brethren. Kaspersky’s Small Office Security looks to address this critical need.”
