Woburn, MA – May 23, 2017 - Kaspersky Lab introduces Secure Connection, a solution that provides a secure internet channel by encrypting all data when using public Wi-Fi on Windows and Mac computers. Based on virtual private network (VPN) technology, it helps consumers safely communicate and access websites, without the risk of interception, theft or tracking.

According to a Kaspersky Lab consumer report, 71 percent of people said they use public Wi-Fi in cafes, bars and restaurants, but only 13 percent use a secure VPN connection. The ease of connecting to public Wi-Fi is tempting when consumers want to access the internet for activities like posting to social media, live streaming a video, or checking an online bank account. However, this unprotected transfer of data puts a person's privacy, data and money at risk, since any since any breach puts your information, including messages, passwords and files, transmitted over these connections at risk.

Kaspersky Lab’s Secure Connection ensures reliable encryption of transmitted data, and if a user forgets to enable it, the solution will display a reminder and automatically enable encryption when it is most needed. For example, if a user attempts to open a site with critical information (email, online banking, e-payment system, online store or social networking site) without encryption. In addition, the management capabilities of Secure Connection include monitoring the time, duration and volume of encrypted traffic transmitted for each connection through a My Kaspersky personal account. The same portal can also be used to control the remaining megabytes available in the free version.

“Consumer security is our priority, which is why we aim to provide multi-level protection at every stage where users are at risk of losing anything,” comments Andrei Mochola, Head of Consumer Business at Kaspersky Lab. “Traffic encryption is an essential component of digital protection, and we are now happy to provide it to all owners of Windows and Mac computers, and by the end of the year – to all mobile users as well.”

Secure Connection is provided on a freemium basis (an option that offers basic functions for free, and additional services for a fee). The free version allows 200 MB of encrypted traffic per device per day with no limits on the number of devices. For an additional fee of $4.99 per month or $29.99 per year, users can get unlimited traffic for five devices.
