Kaspersky to host virtual stalkerware and digital abuse event

October 22, 2020

Woburn, MA – October 21, 2020 – Today, Kaspersky announced plans to host an online event this Friday, October 23, from 1-2 p.m. EDT, called "Stalkerware – when abuse goes digital.” The event will feature experts on stalking prevention and combatting tech-enabled abuse. It will also feature Lindsey Metselaar, creator and host of the popular millennial dating podcast, “We Met at Acme.”

Stalkerware is commercially available software that enables surveillance of a user’s device without their consent or notification. It is one way technology can be misused for online and offline harassment, stalking, abuse, and even violence.

The panelists will discuss the ways domestic violence and intimate partner violence are going digital, and how stalkerware is just one example of this dynamic. They will also address the proliferation of stalkerware in the Americas and globally, other forms of tech-enabled abuse, and how people can protect themselves. The session will be aimed at an audience of people from a wide range of backgrounds, including NGOs, law enforcement agencies, regulators, privacy activists, journalists, and others.
