Kaspersky North America Supports STEM Education by Sponsoring Local Robotics Teams

September 5, 2019

Woburn, MA – September 5, 2019 – Kaspersky North America today announced the 2019 sponsorship of both the Windham Windup robotics team, and Team UpperCup, a robotics team from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Sponsoring these teams is part of Kaspersky’s continued commitment to supporting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education initiatives.

Education is an important component of the company’s corporate social responsibility program. By supporting groups such as robotics teams, the company aims to encourage young minds to follow their interests in technology. Through these types of sponsorships, the teams are able to compete in robotics competitions, which combine the excitement of sports with the challenges of science and engineering. These events not only test student’s STEM skills, but also help to enhance teamwork, communications and quick thinking abilities.

This is the fourth year Kaspersky has sponsored The Windham Windup team and their participation in the international high school, FIRST® Robotics Competition. During their first regional competition, the team won their first two matches and were the recipients of the Chairman’s Award. Overall, the team placed 35 out of 208 teams, an outstanding achievement for these high school students in their 2019 season.

In addition, Kaspersky expanded its support to sponsor a second robotics team, Team Uppercut for the first time. Team Uppercut also had an impressive record of accomplishment. Competing in the Battle Bots competition, which aired on the Discovery Channel, their two matches ended in victory, with their bot knocking out its competitors.

“Being involved with organizations that help foster an interest in the STEM fields is an important part of Kaspersky’s culture,” said, Alena Reva, vice president of human resources for Kaspersky Americas and Europe. “We understand the importance of encouraging young minds to peruse their passion in the field of technology and know we can have a valuable role in supporting these vital initiatives. This year, we have enjoyed being a part of each team’s journey and look forward to encouraging their continued successes.”
