October 1, 2019

Kaspersky North America today announced its commitment to Championing National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) for the third consecutive year.

October 1, 2019 —Kaspersky North America today announced its commitment to Championing National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) for the third consecutive year. Held annually in October, the company joins a growing global effort to promote the awareness of online safety and privacy.

Consumers rely on technology to store a lot of their important information. However, with almost constant news of data breaches, ransomware attacks and phishing scams, people are showing a heightened level of stress when it comes to feeling that their data is secure. Kaspersky found that 81% of Americans find the news of data breaches cause them a significant amount of stress.

Knowing the effects cyber stress can have on consumers, Kaspersky has championed NCSAM to further promote cybersecurity awareness and education. Every year, NCSAM continues to build momentum and impact with the ultimate goal of providing all Americans with the information they need to stay safer and more secure online.

“One way to protect people from the latest cyberthreats is to educate them on ways to stay safe online,” said Brian Anderson, vice president, head of digital sales for Kaspersky North America. “As strong proponents of education, we are proud to be a continued champion of this collective effort to raise awareness of cybersecurity and empower consumers. With the knowledge provided and a well-rounded security solution, consumers are able to minimize their risk of a cyberattack.”

Kaspersky recommends the following cybersecurity best practices to consumers to remain protected against online threats:

  • Use robust security software, such as Kaspersky Security Cloud, Kaspersky Total Security and Kaspersky Internet Security to protect all of your devices;
  • Create strong passwords, picking different ones for each new site and account;
  • Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) to ensure that the only person who has access to your account is you;
  • Limit what information you post on social media—from personal addresses to where you like to grab coffee;
  • Install apps only from trusted sources and routinely
  • Routinely back up important digital assets; Ensure all applications and programs are kept up-to-date with the latest software patches;

“Cybersecurity is important to the success of all businesses and organizations,” said Kevin Coleman, executive director, NCSA. “NCSA is proud to have such a strong and active community helping to encourage proactive behavior and prioritize cybersecurity in their organizations.”

NCSAM is a collaborative effort among businesses, government agencies, colleges and universities, associations, nonprofit organizations and individuals committed to encouraging everyone to promote cybersecurity best practices.
