Kaspersky North America announces annual commitment to Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October 1, 2021

As Champion, company advocates for cybersecurity and online behavior change in increasingly connected world

Woburn, MA - October 1, 2021 — Kaspersky today announces it is championing Cybersecurity Awareness Month, for the fifth year in a row. Through its commitment, the company joins the global effort among businesses, colleges and universities, nonprofit organizations and associations to promote the awareness of online safety and privacy.

According to a Kaspersky report, “Dealing with a new normal in our digital reality,” 57% of respondents increased their use of online services during the pandemic, and for half of respondents (56%), having to be online so often has in itself become a cause of stress. The report also found that only 30% of respondents said they use a security solution on all of their devices. With people spending more time online and depending more on online services, it is more important than ever to stay protected.

Despite great advances in technology and the conveniences this provides, recent events have shown us how quickly our lives and businesses can be disrupted when cyber criminals and adversaries use technology to do harm. Within the theme of ‘Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart.’ Cybersecurity Awareness Month champions aim to bring awareness to cybersecurity, while offering actionable guidance surrounding behaviors anyone can take to protect themselves and their organizations.

“Our mission is to build a safer world and cybersecurity awareness is a crucial part of our work,” said Rob Cataldo, managing director, Kaspersky North America. “Year after year we support recognitions like Cybersecurity Awareness Month to encourage people and organizations everywhere to do their part in securing our interconnected world. We know these ongoing efforts will enable our society to responsibly embrace technological opportunity and bring on a safer tomorrow.”

This year, the Cybersecurity Awareness Month’s main weekly focus areas will revolve around:

  • Understanding and implementing basic cyber hygiene, including the importance of strong passphrases, using multi-factor authentication, performing software updates and backing up data.
  • Recognizing and reporting phishing attempts whether it’s through email, text messages, or chat boxes.
  • Empowering individuals to not only practice safe online behavior, but consider joining the mission of securing our online world by considering a career in cybersecurity!
  • Making cybersecurity a priority in business by making products and processes “secure by design” and considering cybersecurity when purchasing new internet-connected devices.

Kasperskyis proud to support this far-reaching online safety awareness and education initiative which is co-led by the National Cyber Security Alliance and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

For additional awareness, Kaspersky has partnered with @Stereotypebreakers to participate in a five week cybersecurity challenge delivered over email. The goal of the challenge is to break down cyber hygiene best practices into easy, digestible chunks, leaving the participants in a much more secure state - and with a better understanding of how to protect themselves. All while celebrating their cyber hygiene milestones and sharing them on social media. Learn more about the Cybersecurity Challenge here.
