Kaspersky champions Cybersecurity Awareness Month for sixth consecutive year

October 3, 2022

Woburn, MA – October 3, 2022 – Kaspersky has announced it is participating as a Champion for Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2022, providing guidance to help people protect themselves online. This marks the sixth straight year the company has supported the event, demonstrating its commitment to growing global cybersecurity success.

Founded in 2004, Cybersecurity Awareness Month, held each October, is the world’s foremost initiative aimed at promoting cybersecurity awareness and best practices. The Cybersecurity Awareness Month Champions Program is a collaborative effort among businesses, government agencies, colleges and universities, associations, nonprofit organizations and individuals committed to the Cybersecurity Awareness Month theme of “See Yourself in Cyber.”

Kaspersky discovers thousands of new malicious files every day. These new types of malware are continuously emerging to target banking info, gaming accounts and cryptowallets, and spy on victims’ private lives. Cybersecurity Awareness Month aims to highlight some of the emerging challenges that exist in the world of cybersecurity today and provide straightforward actionable guidance that anyone can follow to create a safe and secure digital world for themselves and their loved ones.

“Raising security awareness among users is a key component of our approach to creating a safer future,” said Rob Cataldo, managing director, Kaspersky North America. “One of the best ways to do that is through these kinds of collaborative, educational efforts to promote online safety and privacy. We proudly participate in Cybersecurity Awareness Month in support of the National Cybersecurity Alliance’s mission of building a more secure, interconnected world.”

In support of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Kaspersky shares the following tips for consumers to protect themselves:

·       Protect your devices with an antivirus security suite, such as Kaspersky Standard, Plus or Premium. Use the code CyberSec15 for 15% off through the month of October.

·       Promptly run all security updates to your operating system and other software as soon as you are notified.

·       Enable two-factor authentication. This means you protect your account with more than just a password, stopping an attacker, even if they’ve stolen your password.

·       Think before you click: Do not click on links in emails, text messages or chats from people you do not know, and be on the lookout for typos, requests for personal information, and e-mail addresses that don’t match the company they claim to be from. Read more about recognizing and reporting phishing here.

·       Use strong passwords and use a password manager: A tool like Kaspersky Password Manager can create, remember and safely store strong, unique passwords for all of your online accounts.

·       Share with care: Be cautious about how much personal information you provide on social networking sites. The more information you post, the easier it may be for a criminal to use it to steal your identity or commit other crimes such as stalking.

·       Lock your devices: Require a passcode to unlock your phone or tablet to protect your information in case your devices are lost or stolen.

·       Use parental controls, such as Kaspersky Safe Kids to establish parameters around what kids can and can’t do online. Children may not recognize dangers such as communicating with strangers online, so talk with them about these threats.
