Woburn, MA – January 24, 2019 –Kaspersky Lab North America is once again serving as a Champion of Data Privacy Day in 2019, a global initiative held annually on January 28 promote privacy awareness and data security best practices. As a Champion, Kaspersky Lab supports the concept that all organizations must act responsibly to protect the privacy of personal information.

Data Privacy Day is part of a greater effort that reminds companies that privacy is a critical part of business. Kaspersky Lab North America joins a growing community of academic institutions, corporations, nonprofits, government entities and individuals in the global effort to raise awareness for data privacy in all aspects of consumers’ lives.

“Kaspersky Lab is proud to serve as a Champion of Data Privacy Day in 2019, demonstrating our ongoing support for the protection of personal privacy and data security,” said Brian Anderson, vice president, consumer sales, Kaspersky Lab North America. “As a leader in the cybersecurity industry for over 20 years, we are pleased to see other organizations sharing similar values when it comes to safeguarding individuals’ private data. Through education and awareness, this initiative will help to encourage both businesses and consumers to take the proper precautions when handling personal data.”

Kaspersky Lab recommends adhering to the following best practices for safeguarding personal data:

  • Make sure you change your passwords regularly, and never use weak or repeated passwords. To avoid losing track of passwords, consider using a solution like Kaspersky Password Manager.
  • Regularly check the security settings of your social media accounts to ensure that your posts can only be viewed by those you trust
  • Use a VPN when connecting to unsecured Wi-Fi networks, and avoid sending or viewing sensitive information when connected to public Wi-Fi
  • Secure your primary email and your other most sensitive accounts using non-SMS two-factor authentication
  • Be mindful of the photos you post online, especially when it comes to IDs, important documents and tickets. Avoid posting any travel schedules online.

About Data Privacy Day

Data Privacy Day began in the United States and Canada in January 2008 as an extension of the Data Protection Day celebration in Europe. NCSA, the nation's leading nonprofit, public-private partnership promoting cybersecurity  and privacy education and awareness, leads the effort in North America.
