A Kaspersky Lab researcher has followed several Eastern European luxury crime gangs over the past decade, and the anecdotes from this research provide interesting insights into the lives and activities of these individuals. These criminals have effectively turned one Romanian town, which is referred to as ‘Hackerville’ in some circles, into a sanctuary for cybercriminals who utilize ransomware, exploit kits, and malicious software all to their financial gain. This phenomenon of criminal revenue is estimated to reach $2.1 trillion by 2019.
