David Emm, Principal Security Researcher at Kaspersky Lab weighs in on Mattel’s ‘Hello Barbie’ doll. The doll speaks and is able to respond to questions, and is equipped with a computer chip, a microphone, a speaker, and a Wi-Fi connection. Kaspersky security researchers testing the doll were able to extract Wi-Fi network name, internal MAC address, account IDs and MP3 files from the Hello Barbie doll. This provides enough information to access the Hello Barbie account and a home network, compromising the security of any family of a child using the doll.
