Anti-malware researchers dive into social networking malware, banking Trojans, Internet fraud, among others

WHO & WHAT: Kaspersky Lab researchers will present during the annual international IT security conference held by authoritative IT security magazine Virus Bulletin. The conference will take place from September 23-25, 2009 in Geneva, Switzerland. Presentations from Kaspersky Lab researchers include:

 “Brazil: Land of Plentiful Bankers”
Dmitry Bestuzhev, Antivirus Researcher, Kaspersky Lab
Dmitry will share malware trends in Brazil, specifically examining information he has collected on banking Trojans that target financial data. Very often the authors of these programs are Brazilians and Dmitry will provide insight into the reasons for this phenomenon.

“Twarfing: malicious tweets”
Costin Raiu, Senior Antivirus Researcher Kaspersky Lab
Costin will provide an in-depth look at the malicious programs that infect Twitter and the techniques used to bypass detection when hacking the social networking service. This information has been pulled from a proprietary tool designed by Kaspersky Lab, currently in alpha testing. The tool scans Twitter, tracks malware distribution and identifies infected users and malicious profiles.

“Gimme All Your Money”

Stefan will discuss the concepts and technologies behind Web 2.0 applications. Additionally, he will provide explanations as to why this generation of Internet applications is so attractive to malware authors.
