Business Attitudes Among IT Security Specialists

17 Jan 2013

Kaspersky Lab and B2B International recently conducted a survey covering IT professionals working for large and medium-sized businesses. The aim of the survey was to find out what IT specialists thought of corporate security solutions, to ascertain their level of knowledge about current threats, the sort of problems they most often face and their ability to evaluate the risks associated with cyber-threats.

More than one third of IT specialists admit their companies have suffered a data breach due to malware infection. But malware isn’t the only cause and when data leakage occurs it’s not just the company and its employees that are affected – the customers are too. That’s why businesses need to implement robust multi-level protection across their IT infrastructure.

Key Findings:

  • 35% of IT specialists said their companies had lost business data due to malware infection – the most common external threat
  • The most common external threats faced by IT specialists are malicious programs (61%) and spam (56%)
  • The most common internal threat faced by IT professionals is that of vulnerabilities in software – cited by 40% of respondents
  • Other internal threats are directly linked to a company’s employees: 31% of those surveyed experienced data leaks due to the actions of staff and 29% said their companies had suffered the loss or theft of mobile devices
