The explosive use of smartphones and tablets in 2012 kept cybercriminals busy. And security experts warn of more to come in 2013.

"Smart devices are the new frontier for consumer behavior and fraud," says Hilary Schneider, president of fraud-detection company LifeLock.

Android devices are the hottest target for cybercriminals considering that more than 70% of all smartphones are Androids, according to Kaspersky. The security firm identified more than 35,000 malicious Android programs in 2012, six times what it uncovered the year before.

Hackers go where the action is, says David Emm, a senior researcher at Kaspersky, and they will increasingly find ways to attack us through our phones and social media.
