Adobe’s sandboxing is a smart and sound move – not a magic bullet

Adobe announced on Tuesday that it is planning to include sandboxing technology as a layer of security in the next release of Adobe Reader. This is great news but, before we all start popping open bottles of bubbly, some experts are warning that sandboxing isn’t a silver bullet.
Brad Arkin, Adobe's director of Security and Privacy, announced the sandboxing addition in a post to the ASSET (Adobe Secure Software Engineering Team) blog. The post explained that Adobe Reader’s Protected Mode addition is based on Microsoft’s Practical Windows Sandboxing technique, and is similar to what is seen currently in Google’s Chrome browser and Protected Viewing in Office 2010.
