The House technology service desk is warning members of a spate of ransomware attacks on the House network. “The recent attacks have focused on using .js files attached as zip files to email that appear to come from known senders,” an email to members warns. The attackers are targeting third-party email applications such as Yahoo and Gmail. A representative for the House Chief Administrative Officer declined to confirm whether the attacks, which occurred in April, were successful. A recent study from Kaspersky Lab has shown that twice as many corporate computer networks were hit by ransomware in 2015 in comparison to the previous year.
