Kaspersky Lab today published a new study that reveals almost half (43%) of connected consumers today do not know what ransomware is, despite the recent aggressive spread of this type of cyber threat.
Woburn, MA – November 7, 2013 -Kaspersky Lab today announces that Kaspersky Internet Security, the Company’s security solution for home users, received the highest score and AAA rating in the Home Anti-Virus Protection Test conducted by Dennis Technology Labs. This is third quarterly test in which Kaspersky Internet Security has earned the AAA rating. The test took place from July-September 2013, and measured the accuracy and efficiency of nine security solutions.
During testing, the Kaspersky Lab solution earned 1040 points overall — just eight points shy of the total possible maximum points. The overall rating is based on the performance results of the products tested in a series of real-world scenarios, which uses prevalent malware that users are likely to encounter.
Kaspersky Internet Security earned a perfect score of 300 points in the Protection Ratings test, which measures the effectiveness of a product’s anti-malware protection. No other products were able to earn this achievement. Also, in the Legitimate Software Ratings test, which examines how security software programs affect the performance of legitimate applications, Kaspersky Internet Security earned 740 points, which is considerably higher than the average score (688). Furthermore, the Kaspersky Lab product did not generate a single false positive.
The tests were conducted on a system running a 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. The test computers had popular software programs installed, which are frequent targets of malicious attacks, such as Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Reader, and Oracle Java.
Although the 2013 version of Kaspersky Internet Security was used during this test, in August, the company released Kaspersky Internet Security 2014, an updated version of the product. The updated version features new security technologies that enable the solution to combat malware more effectively.
The Home Anti-Virus Protection Test was also conducted in January-March 2013 and April-June 2013, during which Kaspersky Internet Security also earned the AAA rating. Kaspersky Lab products consistently receive high marks in independent comparative testing. For example, in September, AV-Comparatives named Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 one of the best security products for home computers. Over the course of the year, Kaspersky Lab products have earned several other high rankings from industry leaders such as AV-TEST and MRG Effitas.
