Woburn, MA – July 25, 2016 –Kaspersky Lab North America announced today its sponsorship of InfraGard National Capital Region’s #CYBERCamp2016. The mission of InfraGard’s CyberCamp is to introduce high school students to fundamental internet cybersecurity concepts and provide them hands-on learning opportunities to reinforce their grasp of the concepts. #CyberCamp2016 takes place July 25-29, 2016 in Herndon, VA and is open to local high school students.

“The gap between skilled workers and advanced cyberthreats continues to grow, putting businesses and consumers at risk for a cyberattack,” said Michael Canavan, vice president, Kaspersky Lab North America. “The need for highly qualified IT security talent is more urgent than ever, and it’s crucial that the security industry and government work together to bring more cybersecurity education programs into schools throughout the country.”

“We are grateful to Kaspersky Lab for their support of this critical camp. These students are our next generation of talent and InfraGardNCR is proud to have their participation in our inaugural #CYBERCamp2016,” said Kristina Tanasichuk, President, InfraGardNCR. InfraGard of the National Capital Region is a public private partnership between the FBI and the private sector to share information to protect the nation’s critical infrastructure.

During the week-long program, Kaspersky Lab experts will be on-site to provide students with instruction for two sessions, as well as a Capture the Flag contest. These activities include:

  • TCP/IP Session: During this session, students will learn how computers and other devices using the Internet connect and communicate with each other.
  • Static/Dynamic Analysis: During this session, students will learn how to analyze software code when it is not running/in use, and while it is running/in use, learning what benefits are offered by each approach.
  • Capture the Flag: students will apply the knowledge and skills they have learned throughout the course of the camp to participate in a cybersecurity competition. Kaspersky Lab will provide instructions and an instructor for challenges/flags related to utilizing the following knowledge that will be gained during the week:
