February 26, 2013 – Woburn, MA -Kaspersky Lab unveiled its latest Kaspersky Security for Mobile solution at a special launch at Mobile World Congress, amid a discussion of business mobile security. The mobile industry’s largest annual show was the perfect venue to discuss the need for businesses to protect their data in a modern environment, where smartphones are increasingly usurping the laptop as a fully functional piece of professional kit.

The number of threats for mobile devices continues to grow at a rapid pace. The number of malicious programs for the Android platform grew from a few isolated samples in early 2011 to more than 40,000 by the end of 2012. What is even more alarming for businesses is that the authors of highly sophisticated attacks like Red October are also targeting data stored on mobile devices. Denis Maslennikov, Senior Malware Analyst, Kaspersky Lab, commented: “We are observing two key security trends in mobile security. First, mobile cybercrime has become truly international. Second, we now have evidence that data on mobiles is also targeted by highly professional cybercriminals responsible for the most sophisticated operations against governments and businesses.

The problem of lost or stolen mobile devices is as dangerous as malware attacks in the modern corporate environment. Another key trend is the bring-your-own-device phenomenon, which many companies see as a confusing mix of risks and benefits. It is a further challenge to provide proper protection for corporate data on personal devices, with an unrestricted and potentially exploitable assortment of software – sometimes even jailbroken.

According to Gartner Inc., “Consumer mobility and BYOD programs are top priorities for most organizations in 2012. A range of new IT challenges — from security, compliance and management to cost and human capital management — hits organizations that often are forced to rapidly make investments in MDM products and services to enforce policies, regulate behaviors, contain costs and manage risks across device platforms.”*

Kaspersky Security 10 for Mobile Devices, combined with Kaspersky Mobile Device Management, is now available in the new Kaspersky Security for Mobile – an enhanced solution to protect mobile business data. It can be purchased separately or combined with the other corporate security solutions that form the new Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business product range.

Konstantin Voronkov, Head of Product Management, B2B Mobile Solutions, Kaspersky Lab, commented: “Based on Kaspersky Lab’s strong expertise in anti-malware protection for mobile platforms, the latest solution adds unique features that help to seamlessly integrate mobile devices into the whole corporate security framework. The ability to manage devices from a centralized point, protect sensitive business data and support the most popular smartphones and tablets running iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, Symbian makes Kaspersky Security for Mobile one of the leading solutions on the market.”

A recent survey, conducted by Kaspersky Lab in cooperation with B2B International in November 2012, revealed that most businesses have not yet reacted to the dangers of unprotected mobile devices with access to corporate data. The results of the survey, which polled over 5,000 senior IT managers, show that 34% of businesses do not use Mobile Device Management solutions at all and 29% have only partially implemented mobile security technology. As the companies understand the need to further protect their data, Kaspersky Lab is ready to provide them with the latest, fully integrated and highly efficient security technologies for mobile devices.
