Security researchers have long advised that if you get an e-mail Facebook notification and you don't recognize the person contacting you or are otherwise suspicious about the message, don't touch it and check it out directly on your Facebook account.

The tip is because there are plenty of reasons to be suspicious of Facebook alerts you receive in your inbox. The latest? In its spam report for the month of July, cyber-security firm Kaspersky Lab found that Facebook has become the second most spoofed organization in phishing schemes.
