Woburn, MA – June22, 2009 –Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of Internet threat protection solutions that defend against computer viruses, spyware and all forms of malicioussoftware,hosted the inaugural meeting of Russia’s Commission on the Modernization and Technological Development of the Economy. The company's CEO and co-founder Eugene Kaspersky took part in the commission’s first meeting which was chaired by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

 

The commission focuses on ways to promote the modernization and technological development of the Russian economy. The participants also discussed a number of organizational issues related to the commission’s work. Five priority areas of energy efficiency, nuclear technology, space and communications technology, medical technology, and information technology were addressed during the meeting.

 

President Medvedev stressed the importance of motivating Russian manufacturers to produce high quality goods in Russia and for Russian citizens. “Only then will our products be bought throughout the world,” said Dmitry Medvedev.

 

The commission members includeFirst Deputy Prime MinisterSergey Ivanov,Minister of Education and ScienceAndrey Fursenko, Minister of Industry and TradeVictor Khristenko, President of Sberbank German Gref,head of the Russian Nanotechnology Corporation Anatoly Chubais, and the president of ONEXIM Group Mikhail Prokhorov.

 

The Commission on the Modernization and Technological Development of the Economy was established by presidential decree on May 20, 2009. It is responsible for developing state policy for the modernization and technological development of Russia’s economy, coordinating the work of federal agencies, executive bodies, local government authorities, and entrepreneurial and expert communities. The commission will meet on a monthly basis.
