October 28, 2009 - WOBURN, MASS - Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of Internet threat management solutions, was honored by GSN: Government Security News at its 1st Annual Homeland Security Awards ceremony, taking home the award for "Best Email Security System."

Announced at a dinner banquet hosted by GSN at the Roosevelt Hotel in midtown Manhattan on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, Kaspersky Lab and dozens of other leading security vendors competed in 26 categories of security products and solutions for the public sector.   Kaspersky Lab's win in the Email Security System category stemmed from a nomination by VP Technologies, a Pennsylvania-based technology reseller, focused on creating secure and energy-efficient solutions for government and education organizations.

"Kaspersky Lab's email security products have helped my company continue to grow, enabling my team to sell complete, well-integrated solutions that protect vital components of business networks," said Yoav Chudnoff, Partner, VP Technologies LLC.  "Providing innovative technology tools for schools or federal organizations requires a large amount of scalability and customization. Kaspersky Lab's Open Space Security product line gave us the flexibility to fulfill case-by-case requirements and regulations, while providing specific secure core protection our customers demand."

The finalists and winners were selected by a panel of objective and independent judges, according to GSN's editor-in-chief, Jacob Goodwin, who oversaw the evaluation process. "We received an extraordinary number of entries, and all winners and finalists should be very proud of their selection. We're confident that Kaspersky Lab and all the other winners are top choices for government agencies facing critical security decisions," said Goodwin.

Kaspersky Lab's email security technology draws from a number of the company's core technological competencies, including core scanning from its award-winning antivirus engine, and anti-spam technology which recently won a Golden Certificate from the authoritative British IT security magazine Virus Bulletin.  As part of the Kaspersky Open Space Security suite, the company's email security applications work in tandem with other Kaspersky Lab security modules - including protection for Internet Gateways, Workstations, Servers and Mobile Devices - which can be managed from a centralized administrator console.

"We're thrilled to both be nominated by one of our valued partners, and to be recognized by a panel of judges for our efforts to make email more secure for public organizations," said Peter Beardmore, senior product marketing manager, Kaspersky Lab Americas.  "Kaspersky Lab is quickly becoming a top choice for IT managers at schools and government organizations around the world due to our unmatched blend of protection and ease-of-use, and we plan to continue offering security that meets the needs of all organizations, regardless of their size, IT budget, or compliance requirements."
