The New New Internet,Jack Mann

Earlier, The New New Internet reported that cyber criminals used legitimate company names and logos in an attempt to recruit ‘money mules.’ Hackers are launching increasingly sophisticated attacks against social networking users but utilizing profiling and geolocation, according to researchers at the Kaspersky Lab.

As users have become more wary of widespread spam and phishing attacks, hackers have begun to put a little more time and effort into attacks. They now seek to gather extensive information about prospective targets including using geolocation technology, building a profile of the intended victim.

Stefan Tanase, a senior regional researcher with Kaspersky Lab’s Global Research and Analysis Team, said “We have really started to see a lot of attackers using geolocation for targeted attacks on social networking sites to better craft the social engineering story. They’re using language targeting and looking at profiles and interests to make it work.”
